What is Turnover Tax And why you should know about it.

Turnover tax is a simplified process which makes it easier for micro business to fulfill their tax requirements. Instead of paying Income Tax, VAT, Provisional Tax, Capital Gains Tax and Dividends Tax , there is turnover tax for micro businesses R 1 million or less annual turnover

The turnover tax will be calculated with a tax rate of your taxable turnover. The rates are applicable for any year of assessment ending during the period of 12 months ending 28 February 2025.

2025 (1 March 2024 – 28 February 2025)

2025 (1 March 2024 – 28 February 2025) – no changes from last year

Taxable turnover (R)    Rate of tax (R)
1 – 335 000 0% of taxable turnover
335 001 – 500 000 1% of taxable turnover above 335 000
500 001 – 750 000 1 650 + 2% of taxable turnover above 500 000
750 001 and above 6 650 + 3% of taxable turnover above 750 000
  • Most accountants hide the turnover tax system from their clients because it is designed by SARS to reduce accounting burden and hence reduce accounting fees to a considerably low amount as compared to what small businesses are currently paying their accountants.

In the opinion of our senior partner 90% of the businesses with less that R 1 million per annum turnover should qualify to register for Turnover tax
